Can the turkish Gulets sail?

Turkish gulets can sail but firstly you will need some information on what a gulet is:

Gulets are wooden luxury boats who originally come from Turkey. They are built in Marmaris or in Bodrum. Gulets are pleasure boats who are available for private charter or you can (on some) also rent only a cabin (Cabin Charter). All gulets come with your own crew and your personal chef.

They come in all sorts of different sizes and shapes. But on average they are 20m to 30m long and feature 4 to 8 cabins. But as mentioned you can find all sorts, so if you wish larger or smaller gulets it’s not a problem finding one.

Turkey has the largest fleet of gulets in the world.

Why are we explaining what is a gulet?

Because as mentioned above gulets are pleasure boats at first. They are not heavy sailors like sailboats. Still they can sail, but it is an experience to witness a heavy wooden boat open its big sails and benk on the side, because of the wind.

So to mention not all of the gulets even have sails or some of the captains will only unvine its sails to take pictures.

For gulets that are better sailors and if you have this request, please mention it to your personal salesperson and he will offer you gulets that are more suited for sailing and you can experience sailing a gulet in Turkey.

We would also mention that in Turkey you have organized a BODRUM CUP (a regatta where you can find 100 gulets that can really sail and it is crazy to watch).

LA REINE Preparation for sailing

So you can find sailing gulets. But it is a sport where full engagement is demanded.

In Turkey, you have a lot more variety of sailing gulets than in any other part of the world. Some of them are very exceptional sailors.

And again for very good sailing gulets, talk to your personal salesperson. He will point you in the right direction and give you some points of information that are important for sailing:

  • You will need to help, like pulling ropes and actively be involved in,
  • You can also choose an additional crew member,
  • You are aware that when you will be sailing the crew won’t have time to prepare lunch and serve you. So you will need some understanding for that.

You can maybe find some locations for sailing, but in general, you will have a tough time finding them and we will need to customize you a route because of that.

So sailing a gulet in Turkey – YES.

But there are a lot of different factors that impact your sailing experience and it is most important to address it with your salesperson.

For best sailing results we will help you finding the best gulet and the best route.
